Vacature (junior) persvoorlichter /  (Junior) Press officer

Volt is een Europese partij die een positieve verandering voor Europa wil brengen. Wij zetten ons in voor de hervorming van de Europese Unie, zodat wij mondiale uitdagingen aankunnen. We strijden voor een democratische Europese Unie, een rechtvaardige samenleving en een klimaatneutrale en innovatievriendelijke economie.   

Bij de Europese verkiezingen in juni 2024 behaalde Volt 5 zetels. We zijn op zoek naar een gemotiveerde, Nederlandstalige persvoorlichter om ons team in het Europees Parlement in Brussel te versterken.  

01 Algemene informatie   

  • Gewenste startdatum is zo snel mogelijk  

  • Voltijds, met een eerste proefperiode van 7 maanden. Verlenging van het contract tot het einde van het mandaat is voorzien indien de proefperiode succesvol verloopt.   

  • Salaris: wij bieden een goed salaris en secundaire arbeidsvoorwaarden in lijn met de normen van het Europees Parlement. Het salaris wordt bepaald op basis van de ervaring van de kandidaat.  

  • Inclusiviteit: Volt is een inclusieve werkgever en we moedigen sollicitaties aan van mensen met diverse achtergronden.   

  • Standplaats: als werknemer van het Europees Parlement ben je verplicht in Brussel te wonen.    

02 Wat ga je doen  

Jouw belangrijkste taak is om de twee Nederlandse Volt Europarlementariërs, Reinier en Anna, in het nieuws te krijgen. Samen met de andere persvoorlichter bedenk je een strategie om dit te doen. Je staat er niet alleen voor: gedurende je eerste jaar is er een senior persvoorlichter om je te ondersteunen en je wegwijs te maken in het Europese en Nederlandse medialandschap.     

  • Opbouwen van het politieke verhaal en de PR-strategie in lijn met de beleids- en communicatieprioriteiten;  

  • Persverzoeken beheren: je plant interviews in en bereidt ze voor. Je voorziet Reinier en Anna van de nodige achtergrond- en actuele informatie voor interviews en toespraken. Na afloop evalueer je samen;

  • Relaties opbouwen en onderhouden met journalisten en mediakanalen in Brussel, in Nederland en op termijn in andere Europese landen. Je gaat op zoek naar plaatsingen in gedrukte media, radio en televisie en online media;

  • Persberichten, artikelen en nieuwsbrieven schrijven. Je schrijft persberichten over, bijvoorbeeld, de loop van een wetgevingstraject en houdt ook stemmers via de nieuwsbrief op de hoogte;

  • Het monitoren en analyseren van de media-impact en actuele gebeurtenissen

03 Wat we van je vragen  

  • Politiek gevoel: Je hebt goede politieke voelsprieten en bent in staat om snel een politieke strategie te ontwikkelen en deze bij te sturen als de situatie daarom vraagt. Je volgt de ontwikkelingen binnen Volt en haar politieke groep op de voet en houdt scherp bij wat andere partijen en groepen doen.  

  • Creativiteit: Je zit vol ideeën en weet op verrassende wijze de aandacht van de media te trekken, ook bij media voor wie Europa een ‘ver-van-je-bed-show’ is.

  • Communicatieve vaardigheden: Je hebt uitstekende schriftelijke en mondelinge vaardigheden, zowel voor het schrijven van een politieke strategie of persbericht, als ook om direct en spontaan met journalisten te kunnen communiceren. Je kan de vertaalslag maken van het – soms complexe – politieke werk van Reinier en Anna naar mediagenieke en verteerbare boodschappen.  

  • Relaties opbouwen en netwerken: Je krijgt energie van het opbouwen van relaties, en werkt graag aan het uitbouwen van het (Volt)netwerk.

  • Enthousiast en gemotiveerd: Je hebt enorm veel zin om je de komende jaren volop in te zetten om Reinier en Anna’s werk in Europa maximaal zichtbaar te laten zijn.  

Andere vaardigheden:  

  • Stressbestendigheid: Politiek kan stressvol zijn. Je weet het hoofd koel te houden op stressvolle momenten met (soms) een overload aan informatie.  

  • Opleiding: Houd er rekening mee dat het Parlement ten minste een bachelordiploma vereist in zijn aanwervingsregels.  

  • Taal: Je weet je naast het Nederlands prima uit te drukken in het Engels, zowel schriftelijk als mondeling. De voertaal van de delegatie is Engels..  

  • Teamspeler: Een goede sfeer in het team is voor ons erg belangrijk. Je bent dan ook makkelijk in de omgang, helpt graag je collega’s en draagt bij aan de positieve dynamiek binnen de delegatie.

In the June 2024 European elections, Volt gained 5 seats. We are looking for a highly motivated, creative and proactive Press officers to join our dynamic team in the European Parliament in Brussels. 

01 General Information 

  • Preferred start-date is as soon as possible 

  • Full time, with an initial trial period of 7 months. Extension of the contract until the end of the mandate is envisioned if the trial period is successful.  

  • Remuneration: We offer a competitive salary and benefits in line with European Parliament’s practice and standards, which will be determined upon the candidate’s experience.

02 Tasks  

Your main task is to get the two Dutch Members of Parliament in the news. Together with the other press officers you will come up with a strategy how to do so. In this role you won't be alone: during your first year a senior press officer will be there to support you and introduce you in the European and Dutch media landscape.  

  • Building the MEP’s political narrative and PR strategy according to the MEP’s policy and communication priorities; providing the MEPs with the necessary background and topical information for interviews and speeches and evaluating after the event. 

  • Building and maintaining relationships with journalists, media outlets and external stakeholders in Brussels, the home country of the MEPs and across Europe to be able to position our topics in relevant blogs, newspapers, television news and media outlets. 

  • Managing press requests, distributing and drafting press releases, articles, newsletters and other communication materials, seeking high-level placements in print, broadcast and online media. Organizing interviews, press conferences and other media events. 

  • Monitoring and analyzing media impact as well as current events, preparing reports and keeping an overall track on media performance and current events. 

03 Requirements 

Key capabilities:  

  • Political feel: The press officer should have the demonstrated capability to formulate a political vision and strategy based on the overall political landscape and the individual specificity of what they were communicating. An understanding of quantitative and qualitative political analysis is a must. We ask for a high level of dedication and creativity, and a fascination with communication and the media sphere. 

  • Communication skills: The press officer requires excellent written and verbal communication skills to be able to write a political strategy and press releases, as well as to communicate with journalists directly and spontaneously, if needed. We will need someone who understands how to position and showcase our work and transmit complicated messages in digestible formats. 

  • Relationship building and networking: The role requires good networking and relationship building skills. Previous experience in communication / public relations is a plus.  

  • Drive and demonstrated intrinsic motivation: The press officers will have to take full ownership of the press and media presence of their MEPs. A high level of energy and will to maximize the visibility of the work of the MEPs is important. 

Other skills: 

  • Landscape: The role requires an understanding and interest in the European and German/Dutch media and political landscape, and in tailoring political narratives for distribution to journalists and other stakeholders. 

  • Stress resilience: Politics can be stressful. We need advisors who can keep their cool in stressful moments with (sometimes) an overload of information. 

  • Education: Please be aware that Parliament requires at least a Bachelor degree in its hiring rules. 

  • Language: The working language of the delegation is English, therefore very strong and demonstrable English writing and communication skills are needed. Additionally, knowledge of Dutch for the Dutch MEPs is also needed. 

  • Team player: It is super important for us that we have team players that can work with a large team, help each other out, whenever and wherever and bring a positive dynamic with you to the workplace.
