Volt puts General Welfare on the map
General welfare or broad prosperity is one of the four core values in the renewed spatial and environmental vision of the province of Gelderland and we as Volt have made an important contribution to this.
What is general welfare?
We want to improve the broad prosperity in Gelderland as much as possible – for residents, employees and visitors. This revolves around the overall quality of life: health, safety, a pleasant living environment, social cohesion and sustainability. Broad prosperity therefore goes beyond economic growth alone.
What is the spatial and environmental vision?
The spatial and environmental vision is the future plan of the province of Gelderland. This shows how we will focus on space, housing, mobility, energy, nature and economy in the coming decades. Since last year, we have advocated in this vision a clear long-term perspective, in which the growth of this broad prosperity is central.
During the judgment in April, we made it clear that the ambition of the province – to maintain broad prosperity – is not enough. We believe that we should not only preserve what we have, but rather focus on improving broad prosperity in 2050 and 2100. The Provincial Executive has adjusted that ambition in response to this, so we have not had to table an announced amendment.
We are therefore pleased to see that our motion at the starting note last year contributed to a long-term framework note.
How exactly the province will shape this in the renewed spatial and environmental vision will become clear next year when examining the concept. We remain committed to keeping broad prosperity on the agenda!
