Review of the December Provincial States meeting
During the most recent Provincial Council meeting, the topics of Land Policy and Ancient Woodland Sites were among the main items on the agenda.
Vera focused on land policy. She submitted a proposal to check more regularly whether provincially owned land is actually being used for housing, nature, and other public purposes. That way, we ensure that land belonging to all of us is genuinely used in the public interest.
David raised the issue of Ancient Woodland Sites. These areas are special because they have not been cultivated for hundreds of years. As a result, they are home to unique plant and animal species. Unfortunately, our proposals to protect these areas as well as possible did not win a majority. However, several proposals were adopted for which Volt was a co-sponsor.

The meeting itself was turbulent. Deputy Zoet shared important information only after repeated pressure and also appeared to have acted ahead of policy that had not yet been formally adopted. This led to a motion of disapproval, which Volt co-signed. Although the coalition ultimately kept the deputy in office by not supporting the motion, the message was clear: this must not happen again.

Finally, we look ahead with confidence. Through our efforts, we showed what Volt stands for: transparency, due diligence, and protecting what is valuable. We sharpened the debate, woke people up, and sent a clear signal. This issue is certainly not off the table — we will continue to push for it and will return to it in the future.
