David on his first weeks as a Provincial Council member
Just before the summer recess, David Eissens took over the position of Provincial Council member from Elmar Theune. Now that the first few weeks have passed, he looks back on his start as a Council member.
Last cycle, the moment finally arrived: my first speech during the Provincial Council meeting — also known as a maiden speech. But what do you say when you only have a few minutes?
I decided to talk about the ways in which ecology and economy can strengthen each other, rather than about the oppositions that are often portrayed. I also spoke about how important it is to give innovators space and not to shield those who lag behind.
Even though I’ve been involved with the Council for over two years and have participated in many debates, I still found it quite exciting. And even though I forgot to button my jacket behind the lectern, I was happy with how it went.
