De kansen en uitdagingen van de NAVO-top en de defensie-industrie voor het bedrijfsleven

Volgens Saskia Bruines, Wethouder Gemeente Den Haag, is in een veranderend politiek landschap weerbaarheid belangrijker dan ooit. Den Haag, de stad van vrede en recht, wordt steeds meer gezien als een stad van cybersecurity en weerbaarheid. Zij onderstreepte dat weerbaarheid niet alleen over risico’s gaat, maar ook kansen biedt.

Tijdens het panelgesprek benadrukte Allard Kernkamp van TNO dat de prioriteiten bij automatisering, quantumtechnologie en radarontwikkeling liggen, domeinen waarin Nederland kan excelleren. Wibe van der Linden (NAVO) gaf een duidelijke boodschap: publiek-private samenwerking is essentieel om verder te komen. Nederland heeft sterke nichebedrijven die een cruciale rol kunnen spelen in de defensie-industrie.

Een reminder: afgelopen jaar heeft InnovationQuarter een handzame samenvatting opgesteld over defensie en veiligheid in Zuid-Holland. Vijf kernclusters – maritiem, aerospace, radar, cybersecurity en quantum/AI – onderstrepen de rijke diversiteit en innovatieve potentie die Zuid-Holland te bieden heeft.

Volt Den Haag kijkt terug naar deze uitdagingen met veel interesse onder meer in relatie tot het “Witboek over Europese defensie, Readiness 2030” dat recentelijk door de EU Commissie werd gepresenteerd. Kunnen wellicht deze onderwerpen ook een plek krijgen in de recente Europa-strategie van de Gemeente Den Haag?

Volt The Hague was present on April 2, 2025, at a meeting focused on the opportunities and challenges that the NATO summit and the defense industry pose for the business sector. The event was organized by VNO-NCW West, Rabobank, and the Municipality of The Hague at the World Forum The Hague, where the NATO summit will take place in June.

According to Saskia Bruines, Alderman of the Municipality of The Hague, resilience is more important than ever in a changing political landscape. The Hague, traditionally known as the city of peace and justice, is increasingly recognized as a city of cybersecurity and resilience. She emphasized that resilience is not just about risks, but also opportunities.

During the panel discussion, Allard Kernkamp from TNO stressed that priorities lie in automation, quantum technology, and radar development—fields in which the Netherlands can truly excel. Wibe van der Linden (NATO) delivered a clear message: public-private collaboration is essential to make progress. The Netherlands has strong niche companies that can play a crucial role in the defense industry.
